On Monday 5 October, we attended the Melton and Belvoir inter-schools football tournament. There were 21 teams from different schools - some arriving in coaches and with enormous squads. We turned up in a couple of cars with just 7 boys, meaning we had no subs. Nevertheless, our team played with spirit and energy and, most importantly, fantastic teamwork. We won our first match 3-0, and carried on to win three of our five group-stage matches, without conceding a single goal. By this point we were, somewhat unbelievably, top of the table! We were flagging by this point, but before we knew it, we'd won our semi-final 1-0 and suddenly we were in the final! Amazingly, our opponents were Stathern - another village school. It was wonderful to see two small schools reach this stage when we are usually out-competed by the large schools. And then we scored! Then the final whistle blew and we all stared at each other in disbelief. We had won! What a fantastic day and an incredible performance by our team.
